Ladders Referral Hiring

ROLE

UI + UX Designer

Ladders Inc. is a professional job-searching site, providing users with high-level positions, career advice, and industry news. During my time there, I worked on launching Referral Hiring, a program which offers members the ability to earn money from their current employer by referring personal contacts to open positions.
Companies sign up on Ladders and users get notified of open positions within their company. Through connecting social media (Google + and LInkedIn), members then can refer their friends or enter their email address. This feature enables Ladders’ nine million users to earn up to $10,000 in referral hiring bonuses and helps employers hire candidates who fit the company culture better than external hires.

FIRST TIME USER FLOW

The point of entry for this experience is an email that is sent to the user encouraging them to sign up for Referral Hiring by outlining the benefits of the program. Once they click the CTA, they are taken to the Referral Hiring landing page where they add their company and can connect Google+ and LinkedIn.

LINKEDIN CONTACT LIST UPLOAD

Ladders isn’t a social network, therefore third party APIs need to be used so members can import their personal contacts to Referral Hiring. At the beginning phase of this project, LinkedIn, like Google+, only required a sign-in authorization like any other social site which connects to service. Halfway through the project however, LinkedIn blocked this ability and thus a new flow needed to be created.
Although LinkedIn discontinued the ability to upload contacts easily, it was still possible to download contacts in a .csv file. The solution I created is a workaround that instructs users to go into their LinkedIn settings, request an archive of their connections, and then check their email for the file. One the file is downloaded, the user is prompted to drag and drop the file into the modal.
